Content

This is an activity-based workshop led by theatre professionals whose expertise is in helping the speaker effectively communicate the importance and relevance of the work and the core message in the talk. Repetition is a key aspect of the training so that participants can strenghten the narrative, the emotional tone, and the physicality of the talk in order to define and support the speaker's own dynamic style.

The seminar provides participants the opportunity to perfect their public-speaking skills. Constructive feedback from the trainer and group members as well as videotaping give the speaker a healthy amount of input while perfecting public-speaking skills. Participants will be required to prepare a 3 to 5 minute pitch or overview of their work incorporating also the use of a slide. This will provide a basis for applying the practical aims of the workshop.

  • Craft a captivating scientific presentation using examples, metaphors, and visuals to bring your research data to life and to engage your audience

  • Structure your content in a compelling and memorable way appropriate to your audience

  • Train the elevator pitch – tools for a concise presentation of your research

  • Develop body language and voice skills to communicate powerfully

  • Using effective words and having good fluency, vocabulary, and pronunciation

  • Using your voice, pauses and stresses to retain your audience's attention

Credits and Work units
Many doctoral programs award credit points for participation in workshops and other qualification programs. One work unit (WU) corresponds to 45 minutes of workshop time. In some cases they might round up.
  • 8 work units equal 0.5 credit points.
  • For shorter workshops, credits are calculated proportionally based on the work units.
  • Credit transfer requires the accumulation of a sufficient number of work units.

Example: Participation in two workshops of three hours each result in a total of 8 work units and therefore 0,5 credit points would be granted. As the transfer of credits is decided by the doctoral programs or doctoral offices, please contact them directly with any questions in this regard.
