Potentially relevant ideas, information and insights for your own research can be found everywhere: in articles, videos, podcasts and conversations.
This hands-on workshop will teach you techniques, tools and workflows to help you manage this abundance of information productively.
In the first part we explore methods to enhance time management when searching for new information and creating notes.
The second part offers a practical introduction to tools and workflows that assist us in efficiently storing various content and retrieving it quickly when needed.
- The focus is on the open-source literature management program Zotero and the free knowledge management software Obsidian.
- We will explain basic functions and relevant terminology as well as cover extensions, advanced settings, and efficient workflows.
By the end of the workshop, all participants will have a functioning knowledge management system and will be able to adapt and expand it according to their subject-specific needs.
No technical background knowledge is assumed. However, participants should be able / have the rights to install new software on their system.

All workshops are free of charge. Parts of the qualification program are funded by the Berlin University Alliance.

Cancellations are possible up to 14 days in advance by following these steps:
- Log into your DRS account on our booking platform www.drs.fu-berlin.de
- Click on "My course list"
- Choose the workshop in question and go to "course details"
- Finally click on "cancel booking".
Many doctoral programs award credit points for participation in workshops and other qualification programs. One work unit (WU) corresponds to 45 minutes of workshop time. In some cases they might round up.
- 8 work units equal 0.5 credit points.
- For shorter workshops, credits are calculated proportionally based on the work units.
- Credit transfer requires the accumulation of a sufficient number of work units.
Example: Participation in two workshops of three hours each result in a total of 8 work units and therefore 0,5 credit points would be granted. As the transfer of credits is decided by the doctoral programs or doctoral offices, please contact them directly with any questions in this regard.
