Before booking a workshop: please make sure that you can attend for the entire duration!
Participation
Doctoral researchers of all disciplines of the Berlin University Alliance (Freie Universität, Humboldt-Universität, Technische Universität und Charité).
Objectives
Book an entire week to learn about Self-management for the scientific writing process, discuss about procrastination and just write – alone and in tandems! Use the opportunity to establish writing groups.
Content
The writing week consists of blocks in which content is covered as well as writing phases that are organized in tandems. The first, second and last days are accompanied by an expert who also offers individual consultations on these days. Wednesday and Thursday are dedicated exclusively to writing (alone, in tandem or in writing groups). Monday and Tuesday will be kicked-off with short workshops in the morning. The focus will be on sharpening your topic and self-organizing your writing (check the agenda below). After a lunch break and a brief excercise you will set a goal for the afternoon, be introduced to witing in tandems and reflect on your acomplishment. The third and fourth day you will continue writing in small groups by yourself. You will have the chance to try different forms of writing in tandem. On Friday you will start the day with input on "writing phases and techniques of text revision" and continue your writing proces. You can use the time to work on your individual writing project (e.g. your thesis or a journal article) during the week. Additionally time slots for individual counselling will be offered.
We recommend you also check out the series of short workshops that adresses different aspects of academic writing, such as the process of defining and scoping the topic, the management of the writing process (time management, writer’s block, procrastination etc.), the use of creative writing techniques, the construction of the introduction and the conclusion, and challenges in collaborative writing.
For workshops held online, participation is allowed under the following conditions: a working camera that is turned on and a microphone to allow active participation in discussions and group work. Headphones must also be used to protect other participants from office eavesdroppers. In this context, we would also like to refer to the rules for digital courses at Freie Universität Berlin (Code of Conduct).
